My Story

Danny Popescu is the founder and CEO of Vancouver-based Harbourfront Wealth Management, which seeks to bring the benefits of pension-type investment vehicles, such as private equity, private real estate and private credit, to retail investors across Canada.

Harbourfront Wealth Management is one of the fastest growing independent dealers in Canada, and is on a trajectory of success that is projected to take it to nearly $2 billion in enterprise value by 2027.

Prior to Harbourfront, Danny built and managed one of Vancouver’s largest private wealth management practices. Over the course of his career, Danny ranked as the number one advisor at Canada’s largest asset management firm.

He became a partner at a national investment firm and was named one of Business in Vancouver’s Top Forty under 40. In 2021, he was named one of Canada’s Top 50 Industry Leaders of 2021 by Wealth Professional.

But success in business is only part of his story. Danny, his family, and the Harbourfront Wealth Management team established the Harbourfront Gives Foundation as a vehicle for supporting a range of deserving organizations. The Harbourfront Gives Foundation combines the charitable talent and giving power of the whole Harbourfront team to raise money in support of many charities and important causes.

Danny’s support for the Harbourfront Gives Foundation is active in every sense. In 2006, he climbed Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro, to raise funds and awareness for the British Columbia Children’s Hospital. He has also raced in the Test of Metal, a 67-kilometre bicycle race along the mountain roads of British Columbia, to help the Canadian Diabetes Association raise funds for diabetes treatment and research.

The Foundation contributes to Canadian-approved charities aligned with its core values as an organization. Beneficiaries include organizations supporting health, children, education, and community, both locally and around the world, including the Canadian Cancer Society, Make-A-Wish, and Doctors Without Borders. Over a short time, as of July 2022, the Harbourfront Gives Foundation has donated over $425,000 to 65 charitable organizations in Canada and worldwide.

One of the benefits of Harbourfront Gives Foundation is that it does not have any paid employees, so more of the donations reach deserving charities, including:

The Harbourfront Holiday Meals campaign is one of many Harbourfront Gives Foundation initiatives aimed at providing a lifeline to people and communities across Canada.

It is estimated that Canada’s most vulnerable made almost 1.5 million visits to food banks in March 2022 alone. Past Harbourfront Gives campaigns like the Harbourfront Holiday Meals exceeded initial fundraising goals when Danny Popescu matched the firm’s donation, then doubled it, contributing $50,000 to the cause for a total of $80,789 raised for Food Banks Canada, an organization the foundation is supporting over the long term.

Past campaigns are listed on the Harbourfront Gives Foundation website, along with a list of charitable organizations and more information about giving back.
